Black Hawk's media program promotes student achievement through an emphasis on literacy and life-long learning. Black Hawk's media center develops reading skills by maintaining a rich collection of books and by promoting reading in a variety of ways.

The widespread use of technology in our world has expanded the definition of literacy to include the ability to locate, evaluate, use, and communicate information effectively. Our media program is key in developing this "information literacy" in your students.

Waterloo standards and benchmarks for media programs focus on developing information literacy, becoming an independent user of information, and developing an appreciation of literature, and taking the social responsibility of using the materials in the media center.
